The Mental Health Association in Butler County began in 1956 from the vision of Charles and Pam Grabe.

Starting with only volunteers, MHA continued to grow, making a significant impact to the Butler County community.  In 2016, MHA became a corporation under the umbrella of Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services, Inc. (“SPHS”), a comprehensive social service organization.

MHA began as an agency advocating for those with mental illness or intellectual disabilities and continues working within the community to further those efforts.

MHA MISSION STATEMENT:

The Mental Health Association in Butler County advocates for mental and financial wellness for those with mental illnesses and intellectual disabilities.

MHA VISION STATEMENT:

We see a world where mental illnesses and disabilities are accepted, and stigma is no longer a barrier to those seeking treatment and belonging.

MHA VALUES:

With a primary focus on our consumers, we embrace these values:

• Advocacy to promote change and encouragement to independence.
• Support for those in various stages of their recovery journey.

MHA GOALS:

• To improve the public’s perception of mental illness.
• To promote community resources.
• To stand with those vulnerable to exploitation.
• To collaborate with other organizations to increase impact and reach.
